Yeah, gross topic for a journal entry when anyone in the general public can read it, but I think it’s an important one.
As I posted yesterday, the scale had been holding at 168 for several days. What I didn’t notice was that I had been somewhat constipated. I didn’t notice? No, because my body has never been inclined to evacuate daily. My normal schedule for bowel movements is approximately every other day. I’m sure that is primarily due to insufficient fiber in my diet.
Well, now that I’m living an Atkins lifestyle, there’s even less fiber in my diet, at least at these early stages. I did eat a number of fresh vegetables yesterday, though. Which leads me to the Holy Crap! comment in the title.
I weighed myself today before showering as per usual. Still at 168. Sigh. While getting dressed, I had a sudden urgent sensation of needing to, um, make a bowel movement. How odd, that it should be such an extreme sensation, but I obeyed my body and was surprised at the volume. (Yeah, like I said, gross.) Seeing that, however, I thought to undress again and re-weigh myself. Lo and behold, 2 pounds gone! Holy crap indeed!
Introducing more fresh vegetables (low carb ones, nonetheless) seems to be in order as does drinking a glass of water mixed with psyllium husks daily. (Metamucil Smooth Texture, Berry Burst Sugar Free Powder is the one I have, a more tolerable taste than the traditional children’s-chewable-aspirin “orange” flavor.) If being constipated keeps the scale needle from moving, we’ll just have to remove that obstacle (no pun intended).
Never thought I’d write about the joys of going to the bathroom.
As of Feb 12, I am down to 166, for a loss of 15 pounds in five weeks.
